The word 'Basha' is a Malay word meaning 'a shelter' or 'hut'. Malayan Scouts, who would eventually evolve into the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, adopted the term in the 1950's.

The camouflage pattern is on both sides and there is a hood in one corner for use as a personal poncho.
